'There is no justification for Tau's decline with Al Ahly'

Following Percy Tau's high-profile switch to Qatar SC, former Al Ahly chairman Adly El Keiy has shared his candid thoughts on the South African star's departure from the Egyptian giants.

The 30-year-old, who spent three and a half seasons at Al Ahly, was officially unveiled by Qatar SC on Monday. During his time in Cairo, the forward collected an impressive haul of silverware, including two Egyptian Premier League titles and two CAF Champions League trophies.

However, the player's future at the "Club of the Century" became uncertain after reports of a fallout with head coach Marcel Koller, which led to him struggling for consistent game time.

Tau now embarks on a six-month stint in Qatar, with an option to extend his stay by two years, depending on his performances.

Speaking on Al Ahly TV's programme Malak wa Katiba (King and Writing) per MSN, El Keiy offered a pointed take on Tau's departure.

"The ball is in Percy Tau's court. If he wanted to stay in Qatar, he would have delivered.

"He's a player with immense ability and impressed us often, but he only gives as much as he decides to.

"There's no real justification for his inconsistency on the pitch. It remains to be seen whether he moved to Qatar for the financial package or if there's something deeper behind this decision."

El Keiy also highlighted Al Ahly's stance on players who no longer align with the club's values or ambitions.

"Whoever doesn't want to stay at Al Ahly, it's better for the club to let them go. No one is bigger than Al Ahly—not players, coaches, fans, or even officials.

"Anyone willing to pay more for a player than their actual worth likely expects something in return, something that could ultimately reduce the player's value. These things always come to light over time."
