Mothiba's former boss set for huge 2026 WC job?

Lebo Mothiba's former manager Patrick Vieira is reportedly under consideration for a top job ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a shock exit from RC Strasbourg.

Strasbourg formally announced the departure of Vieira as head coach on Thursday after just one season in charge.

A statement on the club's official website reads: "The club and Patrick Vieira have mutually agreed to end their collaboration.

"The entire club warmly thanks Patrick Vieira for his impeccable commitment. Indeed, in a season of transition, Patrick was able to help young talents progress and always displayed exemplary behavior on and off the field.

"We would like to express our gratitude and thank Patrick for the work he has accomplished during this first phase of the project and we wish him much success in the future. He will always be welcome at the club" said President Marc KELLER and the Board of Directors.

"A new coach will be appointed soon."

The manager's departure comes just one year into the three-year deal he signed last year and French outlet L'Equipe claims that the two parties resorted to severing ties as a result of Vieira allegedly criticising BluCo ownership's decisions on signings among other issues.

After seemingly being found not be in accordance with the direction that the owners want to go in, Vieira's next destination could just be around the corner as it is reported that he is one of the leading candidates for a top national team role.
