'Pitso made a big mistake going to Abha'

With Pitso Mosimane having recently been relegated from the Saudi Pro League, an Al Ahly legend has insisted the South African made a big mistake going to Abha Club to begin with.

Mosimane suffered his first relegation as a coach earlier this week, with his side finishing third from the bottom of the table after the final day of fixtures on Monday.

Following his arrival at the club in January, the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss took charge of 25 matches across all competitions, claiming 11 victories, three draws, and 11 defeats.

With his Abha contract now effectively over and relegation confirmed, former Al Ahly goalkeeper-turned-journalist Ahmed Shobeir has weighed in on the former Red Devils coach's decision to take charge of a club fighting relegation.

"I want you to know the value of Egyptian football and Egyptian clubs, such as Al Ahly, Zamalek, and the national team, and see where the coaches are coming from here. See, Ferreira came out of Zamalek, went to Al Sadd of Qatar and achieved great successes, then returned. For Zamalek again and take the league," Shobeir told On Sport FM.

"People will think that I am saying this now because there is something between me and another coach or something, and by God, there is nothing in this talk at all. I just want to show you the value of your club.

"The truth is Pitso Mosimane, the man who achieved great achievements with Al Ahly, two championships, the CAF Champions League and Super Cup, and achieved third place in the Club World Cup, those are championships that no one can deny.

"Despite his successes with Al Ahly club, after his departure he did not achieve a good return. It is true that he promoted Al-Ahli Jeddah to the Saudi Professional League, but in the end this is a second-tier league, and after that he went to Al Wahda in the Emirates in an experience that was not successful.

"Then he made a big mistake when he accepted to coach the Saudi Abha Club, which was threatened with relegation.

"He lost with Abha with great results, one time losing 8 and another time 6, and many defeats, but the strange thing is his defeat from the Al-Hazem team, which was officially relegated to the second division with a score of 2-1, while if he had won, he would have remained in the Saudi Professional League.

"I saw the value of Al Ahly Club and the greatness of Al Ahly Club, that you are the best coach in Egypt and the best African coach and others and others."
