South American sensation Castillo impresses on Chiefs debut

Head coach Molefi Ntseki was full of praise for "next level" crowd-favourite Edson Castillo who impressed on his full debut in midfield for Kaizer Chiefs against Chippa United in their DStv Premiership opener on Sunday.

Despite being held to a goalless draw by the Chilli Boys at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Ntseki was pleased with the performances of the club's new signings Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango, Ranga Chivaviro and Tebogo Potsane, alongside Castillo.

Castillo appeared a clear crowd favourite with the home crowd on several occasions cheering his every touch of the ball with many later labelling his performance as "next level".

"The four players that played today with Potsane coming in, Given [Msimango] at the back and TT, the combination is very good," Ntseki said post-match.

"I think when you look at Edson Castillo, who has never played in South Africa you see so much quality in him, so much intelligence in terms of how he manages the game in possession and out of possession.

"I think the future looks very bright for the club in terms of what we have currently."

Ntseki likewise highlighted the assured performance of goalkeeper and matchday captain Brandon Petersen who led the side in the absence of Itumeleng Khune and Keagan Dolly.

"Like I said, we have reinforced the team in all the departments," Ntseki added.

"We saw the performance of the captain [Petersen] today, the goalkeeper he did very well. He was very focused the whole game.

"In terms of how we wanted to play from the back, I think he carried himself very well. Then you look at the players brought in to strengthen the team to come and add value, we are happy with their performances today.

"We can only get better."
