Al Ahli 'close' to signing 35yo manager as their Pitso replacement

Saudi Arabian giants Al Ahli are now reportedly close to sealing a deal for a 35-year-old manager to become Pitso Mosimane's permanent replacement at their helm.

The newly promoted Saudi club is still without a head coach after parting ways with the South African tactician in June after just eight months in charge.

The former Bafana Bafana boss guided the side from the Saudi Arabian second tier to the Saudi Pro League, but things between the club and the coach soured due to salary non-payments.

Several coaches have since been linked with the job, including former Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre, ex-Strasbourg mentor Julien Stephan, and RB Salzburg's Matthias Jaissle.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Al Ahli are now closing in on deal for the latter, with a full agreement expected to be reached soon.

Just 35 years old, Jaissle's only other previous head coaching experience came with Austrian second tier club FC Liefering, where he impressed before taking up the Salzburg job.

Since taking over Die Roten Bullen in July 2021, the German tactician has won two league titles as well as the Austrian Cup.

With negotiations now said to be in the final stages, Romano has stated that Jaissle's appointment could be announced before the end of the current week.
