Mokwena hails Zwane as one of the greats

Head coach Rulani Mokwena has hailed talismanic midfielder Themba Zwane as one of the greatest footballers to be produced in South Africa.

Zwane led Sundowns to qualification to the CAF Champions League semi-finals with a 6-2 aggregate win over CR Belouizdad on Saturday.

The Brazilians will now face Wydad Casablanca in the last four of the competition with the first-leg in Morocco on May 12.

Zwane scored an important equaliser as Sundowns went on the secure a 2-1 win at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

"He is one of the greatest football players to see in South Africa," Mokwena said post-match.

"The biggest testimony of a great footballer is when the compliments come from fellow footballers.

"You hear how players speak about Mshishi. You hear when even players who don't play for Sundowns.

"For example, when Bafana Bafana played Liberia, Mihlali Mayambela scored.

"You know what goal scoring (celebration) Mayambela did. It's a 2016 Mshishi celebration, then you understand the influence this guy has.

"But over and above that, again another one that is testimony to be a top footballer you have to be a top human being.

"That's what Mshishi is before everything else you see on the pitch and all these other things.

"The amount of work he does for the young ones, and the support he gives to the players and the confidence when he is on the pitch, that he gives to the team is incredible.

"Congratulations to him, congratulations to the players. You will still see quite a lot from Mshishi because he lives a very good life.

"His lifestyle is good, and he looks after himself very well."
