Spain veteran set to leave Barca, next club revealed?

A Spanish veteran is reportedly set to leave FC Barcelona at the end of this season after well over a decade at the club, with his next destination said to have been decided as well.

With Barca having brought in a handful of exciting players in the recent transfer window, they are now reportedly getting ready to part ways with some of the old guard when the 2022/23 campaign concludes.

The likes of Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and perhaps Sergi Roberto are considered to be among the veterans at the club, especially as they were playing for the side when their current boss Xavi Hernandez was still a player alongside them.

While Pique and Alba have struggled to get into the manager's starting XI this season, Roberto and Busquets appear to remain trusted members of the side for Xavi.

According to Sport, however, the latter will leave the Catalan giants when his deal expires in June 2023, bringing the curtain down on a 14-year first-team career at the Camp Nou.

It is claimed there is almost no chance that 137-capped Spain international will extend his stay in Catalonia, and that he will sign for Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, which is co-owned by former Real Madrid winger David Beckham.

A contract is understood to almost be agreed between the player and the MLS team, while a report by Marca suggests that the Blaugrana have already lined up two potential replacements for the 34-year-old.

The LaLiga powerhouses are said to have identified Wolverhampton Wanderers' deep-lying playmaker Ruben Neves and Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi for the role.

It is understood the Wolves man appeared on the club's radar in the previous window, while the 23-year-old Sociedad star has a reported release clause of €60 million (R1 billion), although his market value is believed to be about €40 million (R703 million).
