England made a positive start in the UEFA Nations League with a 2-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland on Saturday evening.
Interim England coach Lee Carsley pulled out the big guns in Jack Grealish, Harry Maguire, Levy Colwill, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane.
The Irish made a promising opening inside three minutes where the returning Jayson Molumby nodded over from close-range following a corner-kick.
England were more decisive in the 12th minute and watched Declan Rice arrive late in the area to riffle in a loose ball after the Irish fluffed their lines.
More danger came the way of the Irish though with Kane coming inches to doubling their advantage from a switch of play, but Caoimhin Kelleher pulled out a stop.
Ireland indeed conceded again right at the midway phase when Grealish finished off a swift offensive move with a deft one-touch- becoming the second former Irish player to score on the evening.
The Irish weren't entirely out of shape but steadily held ground before seeing a snap effort from Sammie Szmodics go narrowly wide of the mark.
Having lost manager Gareth Southgate after the defeat to Spain in the Euro final in July, the Three Lions enjoyed a smart level of composure and penetrated all phases with ease.
Molumby remained a vocal threat for the home team a little later and shaved the post with a stern header following a smart delivery.
Three substitutions were made by the Three Lions well in the closing periods and had Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes, and Eberechi Eze come on to make their debuts.
England maintained complete authority of proceedings ahead of the final whistle and started the tournament with a victory.
