France bounce back with first Nations League win

France registered their first win in this season's UEFA Nations League after seeing off Belgium 2-0 on Monday evening.

Les Blues dropped skipper Kylian Mbappe and started a whole new front three, which included Randal Kolo Muani, Marcus Thuram and Ousmane Dembele, while Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku kept their spot in the Red Devils line-up.

Having suffered a disappointing loss in the tournament opener against Italy, the two-time World champions were keen to bounce back emphatically not withstanding the visitors' resolve.

It's exactly how the host started a minute to the half-hour mark when Kolo Muani unleashed a scorching drive, with goalkeeper Koen Casteels beaten hands down.

The French were in the mood for more goals moments apart with Dembele, Thuram and Lucas Digne on the charge and keen to cause further damage but Belgium held firm.

Belgium remained on the back-foot as the half began to draw to a close, and had a few good spells in possession and in forward areas with De Bruyne penetrative.

Les Blues were still enjoying all of the momentum a few minutes in the second half and saw Manu Kone fire over the top from way out.

The home team did go two to the good ten minutes from the break when Dembele picked up a first-time pass from N'Golo Kante and cut-inside to riffle in the top corner.

Belgium could've reduced the tally minutes later through a towering header from Amadou Onana following a De Bruyne corner, but he snapped wide of the mark.

Les Blues named a double substitution inside the final exchanges which had Mbappe on for Muani and Bradley Barcola installed for Thuram.

Mbappe should've enjoyed a grand entrance with a chance right at the far post of the box after a delivery, but he drilled wide.

With minutes to go, Les Blues made another substitution later on where Antoine Griezmann came on to make his 137th appearance for the country and replaced Matteo Guendouzi.

The home team were under no pressure as the match started to draw to a close and comfortably marched to victory in the end.
