Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi surpassed a longstanding goal record held by Pele after he scored a brace against Club Brugge on Tuesday night.
The Argentine scored PSG's third and fourth goals to help propel Mauricio Pochettino's side to a 4-1 victory in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Messi first strike was his 757th career goal, which saw him equal Pele's official tally, before his second ensured that he surpassed the Brazilian icon to become South America's all-time highest-scoring footballer.

Not to be outdone, his teammate Kylian Mbappe also set a new Champions League record against Brugge, one that was previously held by the Argentina captain.
The French forward's double in the first half saw him etch his name into the competition's history books as he became the youngest player to reach 30 Champions League goals, at the age of 22 years and 352 days, according to Stats Foot – Messi reached the landmark at the age of 23 years and 131 days.

In a post-match interview, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner spoke about his side's performance and what motivated the team on the night.
"We took the match seriously, we wanted to win in front of our audience, to warm up our audience a bit," Mbappe said, per Canal plus.
"We had a complete performance, it was much better.
"Today, I think that we took a small step forward. We have to manage our weak times, which are perhaps much too weak.
"We have a management of our matches which is not always adequate with high-level matches. But we also had adaptation for newcomers. That also plays a role.
"We have two and a half months before the first round of 16, to work and to be ready for the major deadlines to come."
