Juventus make decision on Cristiano Ronaldo future - report

Juventus have reportedly reached a decision on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo after the recent speculation linking him with a return to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, 35, was in sensational form for the Serie A leaders with 21 goals in 22 league games this season before the coronavirus halted football.

And due to the financial implications of the global pandemic, Juventus were reported to be considering selling the club record signing and highest earner.

With a current annual salary of €31 million (R632 million), his wages currently take up the bulk of the Italian giants' wage budget and it was reported in Italian media that he could be sacrificed for next season.

His Portugal teammate Jose Fonte, added further fuel to speculation last week, claiming he 'left the door open' to potentially return to Los Blancos, where he became the club's record scorer over nine seasons.

However, according to Italian news outlet, Calciomercato, the club are keen on retaining him, with two years still remaining on the four-year contract he signed in July 2018.

The report further claimed the Bianconeri are currently in a strong financial position to retain the core of their squad despite the impact of the current league suspension.

With Ronaldo currently training at his hometown club Nacional Madeira to keep fit, the club's president reiterated the views that he's likely to continue his career in Turin.

"He seemed very happy at Juve. I think and I hope he will remain there for a few more years," president Rui Alves told TuttoSport.

"I want him to win the Scudetto, the Champions League and the Ballon d'Or in Bianconero."

Since joining Juventus two years ago, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 53 goals and registered 14 assists in 75 games across all competitions.
