Italian Super Cup match report Juventus v Lazio

Gianluigi Buffon dropped to the bench as Wojciech Szczesny returned in goal for the Serie A champions, with Mattia De Sciglio and Rodrigo Bentancur also earning a recall from the midweek clash against Sampdoria.

Played in the Middle East for the first time ever and playing their fifth Super Cup title, revenge was top of mind for Juventus who two weeks ago suffered their first defeat at the hands of Lazio.

The Eagles from Rome drew the first blood when Luis Alberto arrived in the six-yard area to finish off a loose ball after the Old Lady failed to clear their defensive lines.

Juventus should have drawn level a minute after the half-hour mark, but Paulo Dybala's free-kick narrowly evaded the intended target.

Evidently Juventus managed to level matters just before halftime after the self-same Dybala showed quick reflexes to turn home a loose ball from Cristiano Ronaldo's shot.

Both sides made changes towards the final quarter in the second half, and with the match still level Aaron Ramsey entered for Juve whilst Marco Parolo replaced Alberto who netted the opener.

Lazio regained the lead in the 73rd minute after Senad Lulic fired home from close-range after the Old Lady went to sleep at the back with the supply from Parolo.

Maurizio Sarri's side finished with a man down after Bentancur received a second yellow card right at the death, before Danilo Cataldi fired home Lazio's third for a memorable cup triumph.
