Ten-man PSG failed to extend lead in Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain were unable to extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 after a goalless draw against Stade de Reims on Saturday evening.

Kylian Mbappe, who started on the bench last week against OGC Nice, featured from the start this time around with Neymar Junior on the bench and Lionel Messi out injured.

PSG encountered a difficult start and nearly went behind from a low attempt in the box by Alexis Flips following a scramble, but Danilo Pereira fortunately enough cleared away.

Former Orlando Pirates defender Marshall Munetsi almost gifted the host the lead late in the half with a half-volley from a loose ball involving Flips, but Gianluigi Donnarumma made a strong save.

PSG were forced to play the rest of the match with ten players as Sergio Ramos got a second yellow card for remonstrating with the referee for a foul that he had committed near the area.

The dismissal of Ramos then saw the  home side make a change ahead of the second period, with Vitinha introduced and Italian-born Marco Verratti withdrawn.

It remained a tight-balanced contest between the defending champions and the host, as extremely limited openings in and around the final third came to the fore.

With Neymar on the field for Carlos Soler, PSG started to show a bit of urgency around the final third and were able to fashion a few openings too.

Neymar didn't waste time to get stuck in and flashed a reverse pass from Mbappe following a turnover well wide after bringing the delivery under superb control.

The two outfits continued to battle away well in pursuit of the winner before full-time, but neither found the breakthrough and 0-0 was the final score.
