Ligue 1 match report Paris Saint-Germain v Metz 21 May 2022

Kylian Mbappe netted a hat-trick to help Paris Saint-Germain thrash Metz 5-0 in their final Ligue 1 clash on Saturday evening.

There were a host of returnees for PSG, including Keylor Navas, Presnel Kimpembe, Neymar Junior, Achraf Hakimi -with Kylian Mbappe starting following his decision to sign a new three-year deal.

Mbappe enjoyed a bright opening and handed PSG the lead when he rounded Metz goalkeeper Marc-Aurele Caillard following a through pass and slotted into an empty net.

It was 2-0 in no less than three minutes as Mbappe shrugged off a challenge from a tight angle around the area and went on to convert a clever pass from Lionel Messi.

PSG added to the woes of Metz a minute from the half-hour mark as Neymar dinked a loose ball from an attempt by Angel Di Maria over a stranded Caillard.

The visiting team looked to draw a way back through Didier Lamkel Ze's teasing shot from a tight angle in the latter minutes to halftime, but he had Navas on high alert.

Mbappe completed a hat-trick five minutes inside the second half after he dispossessed Boubakar Kouyate and rounded Caillard to apply an easy finish.

It didn't get any easier for Metz as they were reduced to ten players soon after when Boubacar Traore received a second yellow card for a studs-up challenge on Neymar.

PSG were alert of their numerical advantage and almost increased their tally a few minutes later through a dummied shot from Mbappe, but it struck the post.

The Parisans eventually went and bagged a fifth goal near the closing quarter when Angel Di Maria collected a loose ball from the post, worked an angle and found the net in his final game for PSG.

With Georginio Wijnaldum, Idrissa Gueye and Ander Herrera on the pitch, PSG ran down the closing minutes of the match and ended their campaign on a winning note.
