Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain got the bragging rights in Le Classique with a 1-0 victory over Olympique Marseille on Sunday evening.
Two changes from PSG saw Lionel Messi return in place of Pablo Sarabia while Fabian Ruiz was restored to the midfield, while Marseille showed up unchanged.
An early chance came the way of Messi from a scramble by Marseille around the defensive area, but goalkeeper Pau Lopez managed to steer the Argentine's shot away.
The Parisians giants were then required to make a substitution a little to the half-hour mark, as Danilo Pereira struggled to carry following a knock and was withdrawn for Nordi Mukiele.
However, it seemingly didn't affect the host as ten minutes to halftime Messi thumped a free-kick from the cusp of the area off against the underside of the crossbar.
Marseille were also required to make a change a minute before the break, as an injury forced Eric Bailly off and saw Samuel Gigot enter the fray.
The Parisians made the breakthrough on the brink of halftime after a loose ball found Kylian Mbappe who went and crossed into the box for Neymar Junior to slot past Lopez.
Marseille very nearly got the equaliser seven minutes in the second half when Amine Harit switched into the area from a smart ball and brought a clever save off goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Igor Tudor's men were under pressure again a little towards the closing quarter where Lopez dived across to the near post and smothered Marco Verratti's rasping shot.
Marseille would finish the match with ten players towards the closing ten minutes after Samuel Gigot was issued a straight red-card for a strong challenge on Neymar.
The Parisians managed to run down the remaining minutes of the match and collected the win and remained at the top of the standings.
