Vincent Kompany: Manchester City captain says teammates doubt motivated him for wonder goal vs Leicester

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany says his wonder goal that could prove pivotal to secure the Premier League title was a product of 15 years of teammates telling him he can't score from that range.   Kompany, 33, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, netted a thunderous effort from 30-yards out to hand his side a priceless 1-0 win.   The victory means City are one win away from retaining the Premier League title as they face Brighton on the final day of the season this weekend.   It marked the Belgian defender's first goal from outside the penalty area for City after 11 years with the club and he admits the cries surroudning him in the moment spurned him on for the audacious attempt.   "Today was a little bit frustrating because everyone was saying 'don't shoot, don't shoot'," he said after the game, as per Sky Sports.   "I could really hear it and it was annoying me and I thought 'hold on a second, I've not come this far in my career for young players to tell me whether I can take a shot or not' so I just took it.   "It's a funny story because it's 15 years of top level football of having midfielders telling me 'don't shoot, play the ball wide'.   "Every single time I missed I said 'I promise you one day I'm going to have a shot from outside the box and I'm going to score a goal and you're going to be really happy with that one' and today it happened."
