I, for one, was looking forward to watching the African players at the London Stadium, whereWest Ham hosted Spurs in a matchday six English Premier League game in the early kickoff on Saturday.
Spurs won the game 3-2, inspired by none other than Harry Kane, who bagged a first half brace.
Africa was well represented in this game. Cheikhou Kouyate, the Senegalese midfielder who South Africans would know from the game Bafana Bafana played against the West Africans in November last year in Polokwane, scored in the final five minutes of the game to make the final few moments of the game exciting as the Hammers pushed for a spectacular finish.
Ivorian Serge Aurier, who joined Spurs from PSG, showed that he is settling well into life in the Premier League with a solid performance until he was sent off in the 70th minute. He has always been somewhat of a controversial figure, but he did well not to react negatively to his sending off.
Ghana’s Dede Ayew also got involved in the action, when he came on for teammate Marko Anautovic. Ayew is one of Africa’s finest players and, if given an opportunity regularly, he can be a top player in the Premier League.
He’s got the strength, the vision and despite not being one of the tallest players on the pitch, he can out-jumped his opponents in the box.
Kouyate's Senegalese teammate Diafra Sakho was an unsused substitute.
