New signings silenced as Man Utd drop points

Manchester United’s winless start in the Premier League continued following a 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday evening.

Amad Diallo came in for Diogo Dalot as the one alteration for the Red Devils from the eleven that started the loss to Arsenal last Sunday.

The Red Devils looked for a strong start on two minutes from a side-footed attempt by Matheus Cunha after linking-up with Mason Mount, but his effort was kept out by the upright.

Cunha was in again minutes apart following a ball up-field by goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, but Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno rushed off his line to make the save.

Fulham showed a form of purpose despite an underwhelming start as a solid effort by Josh King forced Bayindir into a good save.

Ruben Amorim’s men had a golden opening eight minutes to halftime from the penalty spot following a foul on Mason Mount by Calvin Bassey, but Bruno Fernandes slammed over from 12 yards out.

Amorim turned to the bench seven minutes after the break and introduced Dalot for Diallo as well as Benjamin Sesko ahead of Casemiro.

The initiative proved telling four minutes later as a corner-kick from Bryan Mbeumo picked out Leny Yoro, who leaped high to head in off Rodrigo Muniz.

Fulham responded to going behind inside the closing 20 minutes when substitute Emile Smith Rowe sneaked in unmarked in the area and beat Bayindir at the near post following a cross from Alex Iwobi.

Amorim’s men looked to regain the lead with time running out, but struggled to get clear deliveries in-behind the Cottagers defence.

Tough-tackling Harry Maguire nearly restored the lead minutes from time through a header from a corner, but he went wide as the Red Devils had to settle for their first point of the season.
