Chelsea's inconsistent season in the Premier League continued following a 2-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
Senegalese forward Nicolas Jackson slotted back in Chelsea's line-up having missed the draw with Arsenal before Noni Madueke and Axel Disasi entered too as Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk missed out completely.
Madueke went close to justifying his starting berth minutes in where he opened up his body to manage an angle from a tight position and curled off the top of the crossbar.
The host created more moments in a rather subdued first spell off Marc Cucurella's snap effort in the area following a cutback by Raheem Sterling.
Chelsea were though under a bit of pressure in the latter phases of the half and needed mixed defensive tactics to contain Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa.
In the second period, the Bees showed courage and forced a save from Robert Sanchez as a ball into the area led Vitaly Janelt to a first-time shot.
Sanchez was caught out though 12 minutes in the half as the Bees went when Mbuemo send a cross in to the far post for defender Ethan Pinnock to head in a gaping net.
However, Pinnock nearly turned from hero to villain moments apart where he conceded possession in defence but recovered quickly to thwart Cole Palmer levelling matters.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino introduced two changes in the middle of the second half in Reece James and Moses Caicedo.
The arrivals brought in some optimism, but the Bees remained courageous on all fronts and were keen not to surrender their slender lead.
With chances on either end late on, the Bees got a second when Sanchez went up to challenge following a corner but was left exposed and couldn't stop Mbuemo finding an empty net.
Thus, Chelsea suffered defeat to drop further down the table and saw the Bees leapfrog them in tenth-place
