Manchester City: EPL champions confirm signing of 'outstanding talent' in record-breaking transfer

Pep Guardiola's side have agreed to sign United States goalkeeper Zack Steffen from Major League Soccer outfit Columbus Crew.

Steffen, 23, will join City in July 2019 on a four-year deal for about £7m and will stay with the Crew for the first part of the MLS season, which starts in March.

The current USA number one stopper and has six international caps and upon the confirmation of the deal, the English giants described Steffen as "one of the outstanding talents in America".

Crew revealed the deal is the largest in their history and the most ever for an MLS goalkeeper in the league's 23-year existence.

"This is a historic transaction for the club and a special moment for Zack Steffen that we are immensely proud of," said Crew interim general manager Pat Onstad.

The 2018 MLS goalkeeper of the year claimed the move was a 'special moment' for him.

Steffen will compete with Brazil international Ederson Moraes at the Etihad once his move is officially completed.
