Ruthless Bayern move top of Bundesliga

Bayern Munich 6-2 Mainz

Bayern Munich climbed to the top of the Bundesliga table after a 6-2 rout of Mainz at Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Leroy Sane and Lucas Hernandez were not available for Bayern while Sadio Mane was recalled after starting off the bench in the Bavarians' last league game.

Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala gave Bayern a two-goal lead before the half-hour mark and Mane gave them a 3-0 lead just before the interval with a shot from a rebound after his initial penalty was saved by goalkeeper Robin Zentner.

Jonathan Burkardt also had a penalty for Mainz saved on the stroke of half-time by shot-stopper Sven Ulreich, who parried his strike down the middle over the crossbar.

However, Silvan Widmer eventually got the goal back for the visitors with a header from the resultant corner.

Leon Goretzka restored a three-goal lead for Julian Nagelsmann's charges just before the hour-mark and Mathys Tel made it 5-1 with 11 minutes remaining.

Marcus Ingvartsen got a second consolation goal for Mainz three minutes later and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting rounded off the rout four minutes before time.

The Bavarians leapfrogged Union Berlin, who have a game in hand, by two points at the top of the log.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-2 Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund remained within the chasing pack with back-to-back victories after edging Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 at Deutsche Bank Park.

Julian Brandt opened the scoring for Dortmund on 20 minutes with a composed finish after a square pass by Donyell Malen.

Frankfurt drew level six minutes later thanks to a bullet strike by Daichi Kamada from the edge of the box.

Jude Bellingham produced a moment of individual brilliance early in the second stanza to restore the lead for the visitors with a thumping strike into the roof of the net.

Dortmund leapfrogged Eintracht on the table by two points as they went up to third while Frankfurt dropped down to fifth.

RB Leipzig 2-0 Bayer Leverkusen

RB Leipzig got back to winning ways after piling more misery on Bayer Leverkusen with a 2-0 victory at Red Bull Arena.

Christopher Nkunku broke the deadlock for Leipzig shortly after the half-hour mark with a powerful header from a free-kick delivery by Dominik Szoboszlai.

Timo Werner sealed the deal for Marco Rose's charges in the dying minutes from a counter-attack after he was slipped through on goal by Amadou Haidara.

The Red Bulls climbed up to sixth on the log while Leverkusen dropped down to the relegation zone, three points from safety.

Wolfsburg 4-0 Bochum

Wolfsburg won for the first time in four matches after demolishing Bochum 4-0 thanks to a brace by Felix Nmecha at Volkswagen Arena.

Nmecha broke the deadlock for Wolfsburg on 27 minutes, Ridley Baku quickly doubled their lead seven minutes later.

Nmecha put the game to bed for the Wolves and completed his brace just before the hour-mark.

Jonas Wind put the icing on the cake with the fourth goal ten minutes before time.

Wolfsburg moved five points clear of the relegation zone in 12th spot while Bochum remained second-from-bottom on the table.

Stuttgart 2-1 Augsburg

Stuttgart jumped out of the relegation zone after a last-gasp 2-1 win over Augsburg at Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Florian Niederlechner gave Augsburg an early lead but Serhou Guirassy quickly found the equaliser for Stuttgart on 15 minutes.

After applying the pressure, Waldemar Anton eventually snatched the winner for Stuttgart in stoppage time.
