Bayern end three-game winless run at Wolfsburg

Ten-man Bayern Munich claimed their first win of the year after hammering Wolfsburg 4-2 courtesy of a brace by Kingsley Coman at Volkswagen Arena.

Bayern made two enforced changes from the side that thrashed Mainz in the DFB-Pokal, as Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzka took the places of Dayot Upemacano and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who were ruled out with injury and illness respectively.

The Bavarians needed a piece of good fortune to get an early lead after Coman's cross searching for Thomas Muller evaded goalkeeper Koen Casteels and sailed into the back of the net.

As the game opened up, Coman made Wolfsburg pay for their missed chance at the other end on 15 minutes after he fired home a volley to double the lead for Julian Nagelsmann's charges and completed his brace.

Bayern were out of sight just three minutes later as Muller made it 3-0 with a header in the box from a cross by Joshua Kimmich.

Wolfsburg went to the interval with hopes revived after Jacub Kaminiski reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time with a sublime curling shot that found the bottom corner.

Niko Kovac's men were further encouraged nine minutes from the break after Bayern were reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Kimmich for a second bookable offense.

However, Jamal Musiala eventually put the game to bed on 73 minutes from a moment of individual brilliance.

Mattias Svanberg pulled a second goal back for Wolfsburg with nine minutes left and there was a scare for Bayern a minute later as Lucas Nmecha found the back of the net but his goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a foul in the build-up.

The defending champions moved back to the top of the table, while Wolfsburg remain in seventh place on the table.

Earlier in the day, Werder Bremen won back-to-back matches after beating relegation-threatened Stuttgart 2-0 at Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Bremen were unfortunate on the stroke of half-time after Marvin Ducksch had a free-kick that came off the crossbar.

However, Jens Stage eventually broke the deadlock for the visitors on the hour-mark with a strike from a rebound in the box and Ducksch sealed the three points with the second goal in the last 13 minutes.

The win lifted Bremen up to eighth on the log while Stuttgart remained precariously in 16th place.
