Bundesliga wrap: Bayer Leverkusen punish Freiburg in thriller

Bayer Leverkusen jumped up to fourth on the table after hammering Freiburg 4-2 at Schwarzwald-Stadion.

Lucas Alario netted a first-half brace for Leverkusen to give them a 2-1 lead from behind after Lucas Holer had opened the scoring for Freiburg in the third minute.

Nadiem Amiri gave the visitors a two-goal cushion with the third goal in the 64th minute and although Nils Petersen pulled a goal back for Freiburg in the 72nd minute, it was in vain as Jonathan Tah put the game to bed with the fourth goal for Leverkusen two minutes later.

Leverkusen climbed up to fourth on the log, just three points behind leaders Bayern Munich while Freiburg moved up to 13th with six points from as many matches.

Freiburg will visit RB Leipzig in their upcoming league clash next Saturday while Leverkusen will switch their focus back to the UEFA Europa League when they travel to Hapoel Be'er Sheva on Thursday.

Hertha Berlin halted their four-game losing run after playing to a 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg at Olympiastadion.

Matheus Cunha gave the hosts an early lead in the sixth minute but only for Bote Boku to get the equaliser for Wolfsburg in the 20th minute.

As a result, Hertha moved up to 14th place on the log with four points from six rounds of matches while Wolfsburg moved up to tenth with eight points from the same number of matches.

Hertha will travel to Augsburg in their next league encounter on Saturday afternoon while Wolfsburg will host Hoffenheim on the same day.
