Bundesliga wrap

Wolfsburg moved up to fourth on the Bundesliga table after narrowly beating Stuttgart 1-0 at Volkswagen Arena on Sunday evening.

After a goalless first stanza, Josip Brekalo broke the deadlock for the hosts four minutes from the break and that proved to be the winner.

As a result, Wolfsburg moved up to fourth on the log with 24 points after 13 rounds of matches while Stuttgart remained in seventh place with 18 points from the same number of matches.

Wolfsburg will end their year with a DFB-Pokal second round clash at home against second-tier side SV Sandhausen on Wednesday evening while Stuttgart will also not have their festive break just yet, as they host Freiburg in the same competition and round a little later on the same evening.

Freiburg clinched their third consecutive victory for the first time this season after walloping Hertha Berlin 4-1 at Dreisamstadion.

Vincenzo Grifo scored the only goal of the first stanza for Freiburg while Ermedin Demirovic, Manuel Gulde and Nils Petersen added three goals in the second stanza for a rampant win.

Dodi Lukebakio scored got what proved to be a consolation goal for Hertha early in the second stanza.

Freiburg moved up to tenth on the log with 17 points from 13 matches while Hertha were stuck in 14th place with 13 points from as many matches.

Freiburg will switch their focus to the DFB-Pokal second round when they visit Stuttgart on Wednesday evening while Hertha will be back in action next year when they restart their league campaign at home against Schalke on the second of January.
