Bundesliga Wrap

Bayer Leverkusen moved top of the Bundesliga table after thumping nine-man Hoffenheim 4-1 courtesy of a brace by Leon Bailey at Bay Arena.

Bailey scored twice in the first stanza to give Leverkusen a two-goal cushion heading into the break while Florian Wirtz and Lucas Olario got the other two goals in the second stanza.

Christoph Baumgartner pulled a goal back for Hoffenheim early in the second stanza but the visitors' task was made difficult by the sending off of Florian Grilltsch and Stefan Posch who both got second bookings in the 64th and 79th minute respectively.

Leverkusen went up a point clear of second-placed Bayern Munich at the top of the log while Hoffenheim dropped down to 12th with 12 points.

Schalke missed a chance to win their first game of the season after conceding in stoppage time in a 2-2 draw against ten-man Augsburg at WWK Arena.

An own goal by Suat Serdar gave Augsburg the lead in the 32nd minute but Benito Raman got the equaliser for Schalke seven minutes inside the second stanza.

The hosts were reduced to ten men a minute later after Florian Niederlechner got his second booking and was sent off.

Nassim Boujellab thought he had netted the winner for the visitors on the hour-mark but Marco Richter broke their hearts, as he snatched the leveller for Augsburg in stoppage time.

Augsburg moved up to tenth on the log while Schalke remain still rooted at the bottom of the log with four points.
