Bundesliga news: Robert Lewandowski equals all-time record

Robert Lewandowski's solitary goal on Tuesday night secured Bayern Munich an eighth consecutive Bundesliga title, and it also saw the prolific Poland striker equal one of the league's all-time goalscoring records.

On Tuesday, Lewandowski netted the only goal as 10-man Bayern recorded a narrow 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Werder Bremen to retain their Bundesliga crown with two matches remaining for the season.

The Poland international's strike, which was his 31st for the league campaign, also saw him equal former Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's record for the most goals in a single season by a non-German player.

Lewandowski will have the opportunity to overtake the Gabon star in either of Bayern's remaining matches against Freiburg or Wolfsburg, but is unlikely to rein in Gerd Muller's overall Bundesliga record of 40 goals set in the 1971/72 season.

The 31-year-old is also on course to win a fifth Bundesliga Golden Boot award, with his nearest competitor, Timo Werner, trailing by six goals, while he also currently leads the race for the European Golden Boot with a four-goal lead over Lazio's Ciro Immobile.
