Defending champions Bayern Munich returned to Bundesliga action with a 2-0 win over Union Berlin on Sunday evening, with Robert Lewandowski netting his 40th goal of the season.
The Bavarians started with just two changes from their last win over FC Augsburg in March, with Robert Lewandowski recovering from a knee injury and Leon Goretzka replacing Phillipe Coutinho in midfield.
Union looked to take a shock lead early on when a quick counter-attack caught Bayern napping, but Nigerian striker Anthony Ujah failed to make the most of Florian Hubner's cross.
Thomas Muller had the reigning champions ahead before 20 minutes following good work from Serge Gnabry, but the effort was chalked off for offside by the Video Assistant Referee.
Bayern were, however, rewarded for their endeavour though when Neven Subotic collided with Goretzka in an attempt to make a clearance, thus conceding a penalty. Lewandowski casually thumped the effort straight down the middle of Rafal Gikiewicz's goal for his 40th in all competitions this season.

It was nearly two five minutes after halftime when a brilliant pass from Muller picked out Goretzka, who watched as his drive deflected inches wide of the far post.
Union silently threatened a response just after the 58th minute but despite being in the right place at the right time, Grischa Promel failed to trouble Neuer after connecting with a flick on.
With five substitutions allowed, Bayern's Goretzka made way for Kingsley Coman and Christian Gentner filled in for Robert Andrich on the other side.
Bayern put the result beyond the home side's reach when Benjamin Pavard leaped to nod home Joshua Kimmich's corner with ten minutes to go.
Markus Hoffman's side pushed for a consolation a little later, but the Bavarians had none of it thus solidifying top spot.
