With the German top-flight that first of Europe's top-five leagues to resume this weekend, Herrlich has dominated headlines for his transgression - which has ruled him out for his first game in charge of the club.
The Bundesliga issued a seven-day mandate for players and technical staff to quarantine before the ending of the two-month suspension.
However, Herrlich was sighted in a nearby shopping centre with the club's tracksuit on, buying toiletries.
"We're in quarantine in the hotel and aren't really supposed to go out. However there are situations which just require it," Herrlich said, as per the Bundesliga website.
"I had no toothpaste, it was running out, and no more skin cream, and then I went in my training uniform to a supermarket nearby."
The 48-year-old also offered an apology via the club's website; "In this situation, I have not lived up to my position as a role model to my team and to the public."
