Bundesliga: Bayern Munich confirm Jerome Boateng will leave club at end of season

Bayern Munich have confirmed that veteran defender Jerome Boateng will leave the club at the end of the season.

Boateng's decade-long affiliation with the Bundesliga giants is set to come to an when his contract expires in June after the club's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed that the parties had reached an agreement to part ways.

"Jerome's contract expires in the summer. It will not be extended," Salihamidzic told Sky Sports earlier this week.

"That was a joint decision of the club management and the coach was also involved. I explained that to Jerome and he was very understanding. He leaves through a big door - hopefully with titles."

The 32-year-old joined Bayern from Premier League side Manchester City in 2011 and has made 355 appearances for the club to date, winning eight Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League crowns, among a host of other honours.

Germany's reigning champions will also lose David Alaba when his contract expires at the end of the season, with the versatile Austrian international expected to agree to terms with LaLiga giants Real Madrid in the coming weeks.
