Hiannick Kamba, a former right-back of Schalke reportedly died on January 9, 2016, in a car accident in his native country Congo.
However, it's been claimed that Kamba is alive, aged 33, and working as a technician at an energy supplier in Ruhr.
According to Sport Bild, Kamba was not at fault for the shocking incident but claims he was abandoned by friends on January 9, 2016, in his native country, Congo.
Having been left without documents, phone or money, Kamba was eventually pronounced dead upon his sudden disappearance before his ex-wife collected a six-figure sum as part of the insurance settlement.
"Kamba claims he was abandoned by friends overnight in Congo in January 2016 and left without documents, money and a cell phone," public prosecutor Anette Milk told the German publication.
The woman, who shares a 10-year-old son with Kamba, has denied the fraud charges and is alleged that she only found out about the insurance after being informed of his presumed death.
Kamba, who graduated from Schalke's youth academy alongside 2014 FIFA World Cup winner, Neuer, will now be one of the key witnesses in the trial against his former partner.
