Euro club confirm Pirates' Kimvuidi after weekend tease

Israeli Premier League side FC Ashdod have officially announced the signing of midfielder Karim Kimvuidi from South African giants Orlando Pirates.

The 23-year-old Congolese international made a surprise appearance in Israel over the weekend, featuring in a Toto Cup Ligat match for Ashdod against Hapoel Tel Aviv on Saturday.

Initially, there was uncertainty surrounding the nature of his move, as Pirates had not confirmed whether it was a permanent transfer or a loan deal.

However, Ashdod have now clarified that the highly-rated attacking midfielder has joined the club on a loan agreement from the Sea Robbers.

"After getting a glimpse of his abilities in the last game, Congolese midfielder Karim Kimvuidi has signed with the club until the end of the season on loan with an option to buy for an additional three years," read the club's statement.

"The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play on the wings, comes to us from Orlando Pirates, with whom he won two trophies in the last two years in the South African Premier League."

Kimvuidi, who joined the Buccaneers in July 2023 from Maritzburg United, became surplus to requirements following the appointment of Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who replaced Jose Riveiro at the helm.
