African star 'wants' to join Rulani's MC Alger

Reports coming out of North Africa claim that an African star, who impressed at the Club World Cup, reportedly wants to join Rulani Mokwena's MC Alger.

According to Africa Foot, Algerian attacker Youcef Belaïli wants to leave Esperance with one year remaining on his contract.

The 33-year-old is believed to have not joined pre-season training with the Tunisian champions and has refused to engage in talks with the club's bosses.

Belaili was one of Esperance's standout players at the Club World Cup, where he also bagged the winning goal against Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC in the group stages.

The report adds that the Algerian midfielder is heavily considering a return to Alger, who have also already started the process of trying to get a deal done.

Africa Foot claims that Alger's financial issues could hinder a move for Belaili, who is said to be available for €1 million (R20million).

The player's father stated last month that a return to Alger could be on the cards this coming season.

"This is a rumor that deserves some attention. People in Algeria are talking about it a lot. Belaïli is a very good player. He has already played for MCA, and even though he is under contract with Espérance Tunis until June 2026, it is possible that he will return to Algeria," he said, as per Africa Foot.
