African giants without 2 EPL stars for Joburg clash

The Cameroon national team has left behind two Premier League stars ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations clash against Namibia in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Group J of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers sees Cameroon face Namibia at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday, due to the fact that the latter side does not have a venue that meets CAF and FIFA regulations.

The Indomitable Lions have already qualified for the tournament next year in Morocco after collecting 10 points from their first four matches so far.

Namibia, meanwhile, will not be able to make it back-to-back qualifications for AFCON, as they have already been ruled out, owing to their four defeats in four games.

Cameroon, however, will be without two big-name stars, as it was confirmed that the side flew to OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday without their Premier League duo of Bryan Mbeumo and Carlos Baleba, as per Afrik-Foot.

It was confirmed by Cameroonian officials after the team's final training session in Yaounde ahead of their travels to South Africa.

It is also reported that 15 players took part in that training session, but Mbeumo and Brighton Hove Albion midfielder Baleba missed out due to injuries, with the Brentford attacker said to have felt discomfort in his foot.

While Manchester United goalkeeper headlines Marc Brys' squad, another notable big name set to miss out is Napoli playmaker Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Anguissa is said to have asked for permission to be excused from the trip to Mzansi due to family reasons, but he will be available for the qualifier against Zimbabwe on 19 November.
