Chiefs-linked striker 'set for R14M' move to Gulf region

A Young Africans striker, who has long been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, is reportedly on the verge of joining a new club in the Middle East.

Clement Mzize has become a highly sought-after talent since being promoted to Yanga’s senior team from the club's reserve side in July 2022.

The 21-year-old striker has consistently been linked with a move to the Soweto giants in recent transfer windows, but that potential deal has never materialised.

More recently, Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club and Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek were also reportedly keen on signing him. However, none of those moves came to fruition, and Mzize remains with the Tanzanian champions ahead of the new season.

It has also been reported that several clubs from Saudi Arabia have expressed interest in the striker.

However, now, a fresh report from Tanzania suggests that Qatari side Al Asad are closing in on his signature.

According to the Citizen, negotiations between the two clubs are at an advanced stage, with Yanga set to receive more than Sh2 billion (approximately R14 million) for the transfer.

"We are in the final phase of negotiations and hope to make an official announcement soon," a source at Yanga at told The Citizen.

"Mzize is an important asset for us, and while we value his contribution, we also have to consider the opportunity this transfer presents for both the club and the player.

"Clubs like Wydad and Zamalek showed strong interest but did not meet our expectations," he added

"This time, with Al Asad, things are progressing well, and we believe the deal will benefit all parties."
