A senior CAF official has issued a warning to a certain African nation, insisting that ever since Patrice Motsepe took over as CAF president, standards have been set very high.
In March 2021, Motsepe was elected CAF president for his first term.
The South African businessman enjoyed a highly successful first four-year term, during which the organisation significantly reduced its debt and raised substantial revenue, allowing for increased prize money across all major club and international competitions.

This earned Motsepe widespread support, leading to his unopposed re-election for a second term as president earlier this year.
Now, with Kenya set to co-host the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), senior CAF officials visited the country this week to assess progress in the lead-up to the tournament's start in August.
The CAF delegation was led by secretary-general Veron Mosengo-Omba, who warned that Kenya must deliver on Motsepe's high standards when hosting CHAN 2024.
"If you continue with this momentum, we will play here. But you have to continue the momentum that we have seen today. If you continue this, we are here in August to play,” said Mosengo-Omba, according to People Daily.
"This will be the top, everybody looking up to this, the AFCON 2027 here. They are ready to come here, but if we don’t deliver properly on CHAN, people will say, ‘Well, I can’t waste my time in AFCON.’"
The CAF secretary-general added: "The standard, when President Motsepe came, he put the standard of competition.
"You see, even the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, they are still talking the quality of briefing, of pitches, of organisation; they were of very high standard."
