Pyramids 'turn to' Mofokeng amid Ribeiro blow

Amidst growing reports linking Lucas Ribeiro Costa with a move to Pyramids FC, it has now emerged that the Egyptian giants have also turned their attention to Orlando Pirates’ rising star, Relebohile Mofokeng.

Earlier on Wednesday, prominent Egyptian journalist and former Al Ahly goalkeeper Ahmed Shobair reported that Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids are currently in negotiations over Ribeiro's potential transfer.

Local reports have since claimed that Sundowns will not entertain any approach for Ribeiro.

However, it seems the Sky Blues are not stopping there as a fresh report from North Africa suggests that the 2024/25 CAF Champions League winners are also targeting Mofokeng, as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

The 20-year-old attacker has been a revelation since his promotion from the club's reserve team in 2023. Known for his pace, Mofokeng quickly established himself as a key figure in the Buccaneers’ attack.

His consistent performances in the domestic league and in continental competitions have not gone unnoticed, drawing interest from top African clubs, including Al Ahly.

According to Egyptian publication Almasry Alyoum, Pyramids are keen on signing Mofokeng as a potential replacement for winger Ibrahim Adel, who recently completed a move to Al Jazira FC in the United Arab Emirates.

"The club's management is keen to sign a strong replacement after Ibrahim Adel left to Al Jazira FC in the UAE," a source told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

"One of the most prominent names and candidates to strengthen the team's ranks is Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofekeng.

"We have been following the player for a long time, and there is a strong belief in his technical capabilities."

With him rising rapidly, Mofokeng is becoming one of the most sought-after young talents on the continent, and it remains to be seen whether Pirates will be willing to part ways with one of their brightest prospects anytime soon.
