You’d be forgiven for thinking Ford was undergoing serious changes at the minute. Super CEO, Alan Mulally, is retiring at the end of the month, as is European design chief, Martin Smith. However, when Ford recently opened up the European order books for the 2015 Mustang, the first allocation of 500 cars was snapped up in 30 seconds with more than 9 300 online reservations across 20 countries.
The first batch of sixth-generation pony cars was offered as either the V8 GT or the four-cylinder EcoBoost, the soft top or the Fastback and with paint work in race red or magnetic silver. More importantly, for the first time in the Ford Mustang’s 50-year history the Blue Oval is catering to right-hand drive markets. This means for the first time South Africa will be getting its fair share of Mustang allocation.
It’s understood the 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost turbo which produces 225kW and 405Nm, is the only model that’ll be offered in South Africa. Ford South Africa says tentatively that it will arrive late in 2015 or early 2016.
