Referees facing punishment over controversial Swallows goal

Referee Siyabonga Nkomo alongside assistant referees Kgara Mokoena and Thamaga Sebati face possible punishment after controversially awarding Moroka Swallows a stoppage-time winner against Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.

The scores were tied at 1-1 deep into stoppage time when Sekhukhune goalkeeper Badra Sangare collected a cross before being pushed across his goal-line by Gabadinho Mhango with Nkomo awarding a goal.

SAFA head of referees Abdul Ebrahim confirmed that the incident will be further investigated by a review committee.

"I saw the clip this morning, and our review committee is going to be sitting on that tonight," Ebrahim tells KickOff.

"It doesn't look too good, but I can't say anything until I have something in writing from my review committee.

"So let's first have a look at the clip and see if there is something else we can pick up.

"If there is, obviously we will need to recommend rehabilitation.

"Of course, that will happen between our review committee, and our technical committee.

"But the one thing we always tell our referees is to keep it simple.

"Position yourself well, especially in the penalty area where having an angle of view is very, very important.

"So let us see what the review comes up with."
