SAFPU explains Swallows' 22-man list

The South African Football Players Union has clarified its position in the matter involving Moroka Swallows and the 22 players who are in danger of losing their jobs.

According to reports in various media platforms, the Dube Birds have decided to part ways with all the players who did not report for work in December when they were supposed to face Mamelodi Sundowns and Lamontville Arrows.

According to Safpu Secretary-General Nhlanhla Shabalala, the union is ready to go to war with the Soweto club if they plan to go ahead with the disciplinary process.

"As a union, we've noted the leaked recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee's chairperson," Shabalala tells KickOff.

"So we reject those recommendations. We will give a detailed update about our position as Safpu. On Tuesday we will be having a press conference, but we will issue the details on Monday.

"At this stage, the list is just the recommendations of the chairperson of the DC and not from the Swallows management. Remember, the chairperson is the one who deals with the proceedings, we all submit our witnesses and heads of arguments about the matter, if anything.

"After adjudicating on the matter, he then comes with the recommendations from himself as the chairperson of the disciplinary hearing that recently took place.

"So the leaked documents for now are still just the recommendations of the chairperson. The list it's not an official position of Moroka Swallows as yet, it will be seen whether they adopt those recommendations or not. It's a different subject matter altogether.

"But we have a press conference on Tuesday, we are rejecting the chairperson's recommendations, but we will say a lot about this on Tuesday."
