No deal for Phiri Jr at Swallows

Moroka Swallows have explained the presence of Malawian international Gerald Phiri Jr at their camp.

Phiri has been training with Swallows for the past three weeks and featured for the Dube Birds during a friendly match against the University of Pretoria a few weeks ago.

The Malawian National Team midfielder last played in South Africa during 2020/2021 in the colors of Baroka before moving to Sudan to join Al-Hilal.

Swallows manager Elasto Kapowezha says there is no deal at the table for Gerald Phiri Jr but only requested to train with the Dube Birds.

"The player only requested to train with the club. There is no assessment or trial. Remember there were issues in Sudan that affected football on that side. He came and only requested to train with the club and keep himself fit," Kapoweha tells Kick Off.

Gerald Phiri Jr has also played for Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town during his stay in South Africa before moving to Sudan in 2021.

The Dube Birds have another Malawian international Gabadinho Mhango in their books.
