In this edition of My Muti Story former Black Leopards player Wanani Mulaudzi reveals how being a team from the Limpopo province worked to their advantage when it comes to muti beliefs.
Mulaudzi says although the Venda club did use muti, it never involved its players in rituals.
"There is muti in football but it's something the club does on their own they don't give it to players," He tells KickOff.
"You will always find that there is this strange person within the team, a person you've never seen with the club owner before. That's usually the muti man.
"But players were never involved because they would allow us to pray.
"So muti and prayer don't go hand in hand.
"So during Gavin Hunt's era he would instruct us to gather together and pray. But at the same time there was this strange person sitting with the club's owner.
"Not even a single day we were asked to bath in muti, we only noticed a wet kit that had some stuff in it. I guess it was muti. If the kit was white it will turn cream white. But we never touched any muti I must say.
"Because that strange guy was never introduced to us as our witch, our only witch was prayer.
"I still remember the day we played Orlando Pirates at Johannesburg Stadium.
"Sis Zodwa (Khoza), May her soul rest in peace...She was there.
"A big fight erupted there, we were denied entry in the same gate Pirates used. We were pointed to a different entrance but we flatly refused, we insisted on using same entrance as Pirates.
"There was a big fight there and they threatened to open a case against Duncan Lechesa because he also threw insults.
"I think Pirates suspected Leopards were using muti. But I think it was the other way round. They wanted us to step on their muti.
"But still we gave Pirates a big hiding, and it was a night game. We beat them 2-0.
"And from there onwards that's where their suspicions of Leopards using muti were confirmed.
"And that worked in our favour because even in other fixtures because once your opponent start believing you beat them with muti that's when they will always be scared of you (laughs).
"But personally I believe in God, hence I'm saying we could tell there was muti, but as players we were never made to touch it with our own hands."
