Mammila: Swallows not over-coaching players

Swallows FC technical advisor Morgan Mammila has hailed interim head coach Musa Nyatama for turning things around at the DStv Premiership strugglers.

Though not yet safe from relegation, Mammila's arrival at Swallows has seen them moving away from the relegation zone and even managing to earn a point against DStv Premiership champions-elect Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mammila says Nyatama's understanding of the game is what has brought the best out of the Dube Birds players, and even backed him to keep the job if things continue to go well for him.

"Let's give credit to Musa guys, he is doing a wonderful job and players understand him," Mammila tells KickOff.

"And I think that's the turn around. My arrival is not really what has turned things around, you must remember these players have been with Musa for quite some time.

"He knows and understands the players and the club, I might have added small things here and there, but let's be honest Musa knows what he is doing.

"We must just support this young man because I'm telling you in the next two, three years Musa will be one of the top coaches."

Asked by this publication on the chances of Swallows making Nyatama their permanent head coach next season, Mammila said,

"To be honest the work that he is doing is speaking for itself and not him.

"You know sometimes what you do speaks volumes. I think it's clear to everyone the good work that Musa is doing.

"My role…I'm just helping Musa that's all that I'm doing. My job is simple, to advise Musa.

"But I'm happy because I'm advising someone who understands the game of football even way better than me, he's played it and now he is coaching it.

"But one thing for sure, despite the little knowledge that I have he does not undermine me, he works closely with me.

"So I'm a happy chap, that's why the results are there. Musa is the best coach, unfortunately, he didn't start the way other people started.

"He doesn't need to be an assistant for 10 years, he can be an assistant for one month, or two months and become a better coach and that's what he is doing.

"Nothing has changed really we just worked on our players' strength. We just gave them the freedom to express themselves. We not over coaching them, that's one thing for sure."
