My First Paycheque - Gavin Hunt

In this edition of My First Paycheque, KickOff speaks to decorated head coach Gavin Hunt  on his first foray into coaching back in the nineties in Cape Town.

Who you signed for?

"Vasco Da Gama. They are the first team I coached."

How much was it?

"They were paying me R1 500. That was in 1995. I was so excited [to get his first coaching job].

"They still owe me R5 000 [laughs]. They never paid me. At Seven Stars it was a little bit better. I think it was about R4 000 [laughs]."

How I celebrated?

"No, I never celebrated, I haven't got the money they still owe me, I must get my money soon. Vasco Da Gama never paid me."

What I bought with it?

"I didn't buy anything I had to pay for life, for food. I bought only food nothing else."

Did it last you full month?

"Yes, the change, with the change. Back then you could leave with R4 000, and you could live.

"But nowadays you can't."
