Gabuza was surprisingly benched despite being the club's top scorer with three goals this season and having previously netted in the marquee fixture.
Micho, who entrusted Thabiso Kutumela to lead the line at FNB Stadium with support from Mpho Makola, said they wanted to capitalise on the space in between Chiefs' defenders.
"I need to tell you that tactics is all about to cover their weaknesses and express your strong point, and expose the opponents' weaknesses and close their strong point," Sredojevic said.
"When you have that in mind, they know us we know them. The system the coach played the other day against Sundowns and today has three crucial weak points."
Micho explained that he wanted to attack the space between Chiefs' centre-backs and wingbacks through the likes of Makola, Thabo Qalinge and Thabo Rakhale, who made way for Gabuza in the 63rd minute.
"There were spaces which we needed to exploit. Those spaces could have been crucial where we wanted to enter in attack, and then to terminate and to finish it was not easy," said the Serbian.
