Kaizer Chiefs' Joseph Molangoane backs Willard Katsande response after penalty miss in Derby

Katsande failed from the spot late into the 1-1 draw with arch-rivals Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Molangoane, who scored the opener in his first Derby appearance, has little doubt the Zimbabwean will bounce back strongly.

“He’s a top player and top players bounce back,” Molangoane told the club's website. “It wouldn’t surprise me if he scores a few in his next few games.

“I thought he played well in the game, he was just unlucky with the penalty. It is one of those things, you need the character to step up. He’ll bounce back I’m sure, he has the character and strength to come through it and play well.”

Meanwhile, Molangoane was thrilled to find the net against the Buccaneers, who equalised via an own goal from Tsepo Masilela.

“I am very happy, especially scoring in a game of this magnitude where everyone is watching,” said the former Chippa United attacker. “Obviously I would have wanted us to get the win, but we played well as a team and showed our fans how much we wanted to win this game.

“We are playing good football. Unfortunately we could not put the game away when we had the chance to, but we played well – that’s important for us going forward.”

The Glamour Boys trail log leaders Cape Town City by three points with 10 games left, and next face Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup at Athlone Stadium this Saturday.
