Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela to use Nedbank Cup as Soweto Derby therapy

Amakhosi’s league title hopes may have taken a serious knock with their defeat to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates last Saturday, but some comfort could be taken from their cup prospects.

Chiefs will host National First Division outfit Stellenbosch FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this Saturday looking to shake off the effects of their recent disappointment.

Having dropped to fifth place on the Absa Premiership table, trailing leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by eight points with seven games to go, Komphela hopes to use the cup clash as a confidence booster before they return to Johannesburg to host AmaZulu in the league.

“You have to be driven. Any professional has to be driven. The beauty of professionals is to suffer setbacks consistently and keep rising,” said Komphela.

“This time is no different, but now the beauty is that we’re playing in the Nedbank Cup against Stellenbosch, which could come in as therapy.

“I hope we go through that match, win properly and then gain momentum, and then forget [about the derby result].”

Kick-off of this weekend’s fixture in Durban has been scheduled for 20h15.
