Chiefs drew 1-1 with Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium, as Joseph Molangoane's 16th minute opener in his first Derby was cancelled out by Tsepo Masilela's own goal at FNB Stadium.
Amakhosi could have sniped the points late on, but midfield enforcer Katsande's weak penalty was saved by Brighton Mhlongo after Ayanda Gcaba was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.
Komphela told SABC TV: "It is a question of focus and understanding that this is the moment that defines everything. Penalties are missed by a lot of players, we have seen the Roberto Baggios and Beckhams and all that. It is unfortunate.
"But with the number of chances we had could have done better. Even in the first half, before we went to the dressing room we should have taken advantage. We regret we couldn't get three points, performance-wise it's okay.
"But there were also areas where Pirates were ahead of us, we didn't manage that very well. Just tied to that, we were almost there... 82nd minute it's almost done. We were about to make a substitution in fact, we had to hold and see what happened with the penalty. Then we had to throw [Gustavo] Paez in, because we were gonna throw in [Daniel] Cardoso after scoring that goal. There were only five minutes to play, we regret that."
Meanwhile, Molangoane enjoyed the occasion, as he tapped in a square pass from Bernard Parker following a defence-splitting ball from Siphiwe Tshabalala.
"Credit must go to team, the supporters and everyone that is here. I can do better but it was a nice game, I really enjoyed it," said Molangoane, who described his goal as the "cherry on top".
