Justin Shonga eager to fire for Orlando Pirates in Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs

The Zambia international is expected to lead the line for Bucs after hitting a brace in a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last Sunday.

And naturally, Shonga hopes to bolster his tally of three goals for the season in this weekend's marquee fixture.

“It is what each and every player is looking forward to, scoring in the Derby because it is a big game,” Shonga said.

“I just have to work hard to make sure I score on Saturday.”

Shonga missed the goalless draw in the reverse fixture in October as he was still settling in at Mayfair following his arrival the month before.

“It will be my first [Soweto] derby and it is a big stage. It's exciting and I want to be a part of it,” Shonga said.

“I would love to be one of the players to take part in this game. This one is a big derby in the continent and in the world. Two big clubs in Africa and it is going to be a nice game. We just have to enjoy and work hard. Both teams need to win and hopefully we will be the best team on the day.

“Back home the biggest derby that is played is Power Dynamos against Nkana FC but I always supported Zesco because my father used to play for them. I never played a derby in Zambia because I never played for those teams in my career.”

Pirates are four points behind Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, while Chiefs are a further point off the pace with eight matches left.
