Khune joins his teammates Siphiwe Tshabalala, who wil be making his 29th appearance for Amakhosi against the Buccaneers, as the two players with the most Derby appearances.
Tshabalala currently holds the record after surpassing former Pirates' captain Lucky Lekgwathi's record of 22 Derby appearances back in 2005, and should he feature today the Chiefs goalkeeper will move second on the list.
The 29-year-old Ventersdorp-born shotstopper, who has only ever worn the gold and black of the Glamour Boys, has relished his experiences since making his first appearance in this fixture in a 2-2 draw back on 24 November 2007 and knows his responsibility to guide the newcomers in the team this season.
"The new players are good players and they know the expectations [of teh Soweto Derby]; they know they must deliver on the day," says Khune.
"They've been delivering in other matches so it won't be any different [in the Derby], it's just the 95 000 [sic] fans that will be the difference, but I think they can handle the pressure.
"When they were still playing for other teams, we used to fill up the stadiums and they would feel that pressure and excitement [when playing against Chiefs], and they were performing well under those circumstances, hence they were signed by the club.
"Now that they are here, they need to make sure they make thos people proud."
Having stood the test of time since stepping up to fill the boots of former Chiefs 'keeper Rowen Fernandez almost 12 years ago, Khune says the build up and excitement surrounding the Soweto Derby is still the same.
"Not much has changed because 95 000-plus [sic] fans [still] come and fill up FNB Stadium, and obviously the excitement building up to the match [is the same]," adds Khune.
"The whole week, wherever you go, you have fans saying, 'please make us proud!' That's us [players] who have to do that – make the fans proud and we have to go on the field and perform."
Kick-off at the 'Calabash' is set for 15h30.
