Cupido leaves for Gauteng, CT City find a replacement

Cape Town City have identified the ideal replacement for defender Keanu Cupido, who is poised to join Mamelodi Sundowns.

Cupido was set to travel to Johannesburg this past weekend to complete his medical before signing on the dotted line for the defending champions.

The 27-year-old will be unveiled by The Brazilians before the transfer window deadline on Tuesday.

Cupido is set to sign a five-year deal with Masandawana, according to a source at Chloorkop.

The Tshwane giants have already released Rushine De Reuck to open up space for a new signing, with the centre-back having joined Maccabi Petah Tikva in Israel on a six-month loan deal.

Cape Town City head coach Muhsin Ertugral believes former JDR Stars defender Sibusiso Ziba is the right candidate to fill the big shoes left by their latest departure.

"Keanu is a great player that looks to bigger challenges for himself and he deserves it," said Ertugral after the Nedbank Cup Last 32 match against Sekhukhune United in Polokwane on Monday.

"I think we are good in the defensive line, so we still have one youngster, Ziba. He needs also a chance. I was thinking today maybe to give him a chance, but Ziba is also a very interesting player," he added.

Meanwhile, Sundowns are also currently finalizing a deal with a few players, including Lesiba Nku and Lebohang Maboe, who could go out on loan before the transfer window deadline at midnight on Tuesday.
